About Client:
One of the largest contract foodservice companies in the world, with a footprint of about 50 countries.
The Project and The Challenge:
The project is called Lift and Shift, where the CEO wanted a complete on-prem infrastructure migration into AWS cloud. We partnered with the folks at tThe cCompany to assist in drafting the complete migration plan, determine the right capacity and topology planning, assist in complete migration, and include DR activities to keep infrastructure costs down.
Why AWS:
The cCompany decided that the cloud was the best way to meet its needs for cost savings, scalability, and speed to market, and chose to use Amazon Web Services (AWS) since it is both leading as #1 in the market, and reliable.
The Benefits:
AWS Services: AWS offers a number of services which can be leveraged for successful migration with minimal effort.
Security: As the Company is HIPAA compliant, data security is of utmost priority. AWS provides rich security features and has certification for ISO and PCI DSS. It also uses AWS WAF, a web application firewall, as well as security groups within Amazon EC2 instances for its instance level security.
Infrastructure - The Company uses AWS CloudFormation to create and manage new AWS environments from templates, while Amazon CloudWatch provides monitoring and alerts for the AWS infrastructure. It also utilizes services such as AWS Lambda and AWS X-ray which offer detailed performance insights and boosts operational efficiency. Also, since moving its website to AWS, they have been able to better cope with customer demands; auto-scaling to receive 1 million to 5 million requests on normal and peak seasons, using Route53, ELB, ALB, EC2, VPC, Internet Gateway.
